Fennel fruits are the seeds of a plant of the Umbrella family of the genus Fennel. Popularly known as pharmaceutical dill or Voloshsky. Fennel throws out umbrellas with yellow flowers. After the flowers are in place, the fruits or grains of the plant appear.

The grains of Voloshsky dill are oblong, have grooves (oil course). Brown or gray-green in color. Length does not exceed 10 mm, width - no more than 5 mm.

The ripeness of fennel seeds is not difficult to determine: they are quite hard. They have a bright spicy, sweetish aroma, similar to dill and anise.
