Radish variety called "Zarya" (from the Latin RAPHANUS SATIVUS VAR. RADICULA ‘ZARYA’) refers to early ripening varieties. It was bred in 1989 by breeders from the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute of Vegetable Growing.

Further in the article you will find a similar description of the variety, the features of its cultivation and the characteristics of similar varieties.

Why did it become so popular and what are its advantages? Read in our material and see a photo of this early vegetable.

Root description

The root vegetable is from bright red to dark red, with an average length of 3.9 centimeters, diameter can reach 3 centimeters... On average, the weight of one fruit is 18-20 grams (when grown in open ground) and 6-7 grams (when grown in greenhouses), therefore, experienced summer residents prefer to grow radishes in the open ground to obtain the desired result, while giving it additional care and top dressing.

Uses and yield

It is used fresh for preparing salads, since it contains a fairly high level of vitamins and is combined with other vegetables (cucumbers, tomatoes). The pulp inside is very juicy and tender, has a white color, fruits can be kept fresh for a long time, do not wither. The leaf is medium in size, medium dissected, slightly pubescent, the petioles are rather thin, medium in size.

Unlike other varieties, the Zarya radish does not taste bitter. The yield of the variety is from 1.5 kg. up to 2.3 kg. from 1 square meter. The fruits are pulled out quite easily, with proper care, the summer resident gets exactly the result he dreams of.

Sowing time is early, and maturation occurs within 30 days. Suitable for both open and closed ground, prefers sunny locations, which have a beneficial effect on the rate of ripening and the quality of the fruit.

Preferably a location that is isolated from the wind. Planting scheme 4x20 centimeters (each seed should be located 20 centimeters from the next, not more often).

The care is pretty simple:

  • weeding is necessary;
  • watering;
  • plant feeding.

The amount of watering depends on the climate: if the temperature is too high, then it should be done daily, in case of cold weather, watering is carried out 1 time in 2 days. As a top dressing you can use:

  • urea;
  • double superphosphate;
  • wood ash;
  • humus;
  • compost.

Top dressing is carried out mainly before planting, while digging the soil for planting.

It is very important to note that watering radishes must be treated responsibly: if you water it too often, the excess moisture can cause the fruit to become watery and tasteless. But if you missed the watering time, then the radish fruits become elongated, tough and very bitter.

But with proper care, the summer resident receives a lot of advantages.:

  1. a rich crop that is resistant to low light;
  2. stored for a long time.

It has many health benefits. We will write about this below.

Every experienced summer resident knows that in early spring, radish is one of the main and, most importantly, one of the first sources of vitamins.

In addition, this root crop has pronounced antimicrobial properties, as well as a very high content of necessary micro- and macroelements, vitamins (for example, in fruits, the content of ascorbic acid reaches 41.4 mg%). This has a beneficial effect on the health of summer residents and their family members, and makes radish one of the most sought-after and desired root crops.

Disease resistance

The variety is relatively disease resistant (for example, to such common ones as white rot or black leg, which affects root crops, preventing them from growing to the desired size), but needs additional feeding, especially if the climatic conditions do not correspond to the norm (precipitation, windy weather, sharp frosts at night Times of Day).

As the recommended cultivation regions, agronomists offer open and protected ground in areas such as:

  • Northwestern.
  • Central.
  • Volzhsky.
  • West Siberian.
  • Volgo-Vyatsky.
  • Far Eastern.
  • Ural region of the Russian Federation.

In addition, the variety is resistant to flowering (flowering does not lead to a decrease in the quality of root crops and leaves, so the radish looks fresh and is not subject to disease).

What is the reason for the popularity?

The variety is very popular, it is also grown in countries such as Ukraine, Belarus and Estonia, where the climate is favorable and the harvest is quite rich.

Reviews about this variety are mostly positive., summer residents and agronomists note:

  • high yield of the variety;
  • taste properties of fruits;
  • the seeds are available at any convenience store.

Convenience and unpretentious care makes this variety one of the most popular of all that exist at the moment.

Radish "Zarya" perfectly takes root in the soil, which is pre-fed and fertilized. It does not need additional funds, only care and maintenance of a favorable soil water balance.

Similar varieties

The variety is similar in properties and quality to other varieties of radish.

  1. Variety "Quart" (the size reaches 4 centimeters, the pulp is juicy and tender, the taste is not very sharp with proper care and root crops). "Kvarta" is also a rather early ripening variety, the period from full sprouting to the onset of technical ripeness varies from 25 to 30 days. The variety is resistant to diseases, especially white rot and black leg seedlings.
  2. Another variety that is similar to "Zarya" - Ilke radish... It belongs to varieties with an average ripening period, the period from the beginning of germination to the onset of ripeness is 25-30 days. Fruits are red, round, weighing 16 to 20 grams, white and juicy flesh. It is also slightly susceptible to pests that are found in cruciferous crops.

Thus, the Zarya radish variety is one of the most popular, available, and therefore demanded. Do not forget that experienced summer residents note its value and state that the quality of the fruits is very high, the yield is also high, but the variety needs care and control over the moisture level. An early harvest allows summer residents and family members to receive the necessary vitamins and recover their strength after the winter season, and the taste will appeal not only to adults, but also to children.
