It dissolves easily in water, so it is very convenient to use boric acid.

Boric acid can be called a universal remedy, since its range of applications is incredibly wide.

Where is it used?

In the garden and vegetable garden

There are legends about the invaluable effect of boric acid on plants, but, in fact, it is difficult to overestimate it. Here are the main benefits of boric acid:

  1. Excellent fertilizer, thanks to him, the growth of young shoots, fruit ovary is enhanced (and accelerated), used in the garden for tomatoes, that is, the yield increases. It is best used as a spray. It also effectively stimulates the germination of seeds; before sowing, they are soaked in a prepared solution.
  2. A good remedy against disease, because with a lack of boron in plants, development slows down, all kinds of rot, bacteriosis, hollowness and other diseases begin to appear. You can apply it as a foliar dressing or water the plant, as usual, at the root.
  3. Pest control. Boric acid successfully helps to get rid of many harmful insects, for example, aphids, wood lice, ants. It can be simply scattered in strips (about 5 mm wide) along the plants with pests, you can sprinkle it directly on the anthill.

For indoor plants

Boric acid has been used for a long time in home floriculture as a top dressing and fertilizer. It promotes more lush flowering due to the development of a large number of buds, the plant, thanks to such dressings, becomes stronger and healthier.

Harmful properties in case of overdose

Boric acid belongs to the lowest hazard class of harmful substances, but it must be applied in proportions and dosages that are prescribed in the instructions. If it is excessively introduced (abused), then you can get a negative result - the leaves on the plants will begin to turn yellow and die off, the roots may burn. In case of an overdose, the plant is damaged at the cellular level and the plant will simply die.

Contraindications

Boron, like many other elements, can be salvation, and it can also become poison. It is never worth adding boric acid to the soil in reserve; instead of being beneficial, the plants can be damaged - this must always be remembered.

It is also not recommended to add it to chernozem soil. If a plant suddenly has an excess of boron, then this can be understood by the following signs:

  • The leaf turns yellow and takes on an unnatural domed shape.
  • Its edges rise and fold down.
  • The surface of the sheet may become glossy.

ATTENTION! Naturally, if you notice such signs in the form of yellowness, curling or glossiness of leaves on your plants, in no case should you use boric acid for them.

Of course, here everyone has the right to choose the most convenient option for themselves. There are always pros and cons. When buying a ready-made fertilizer, you will not need to spend additional time - after all, you just need to add it and that's it (spray or water the plant).

But the substances we need are not always included in the finished fertilizer; something may have to be added additionally. When preparing the composition yourself, you can take into account all the nuances and choose the ideal composition.

What is also important - ready-made fertilizers are always more expensive. However, if you have just recently started gardening and are still completely new to this business, then, of course, it is worth purchasing ready-made fertilizers.

What ready-made fertilizers are included in the composition?

There are a number of fertilizers (including complex fertilizers) that contain boric acid. The stores offer a very wide selection of boric acid fertilizers:

  1. Bura - it is recommended to apply it to the soil as a normal root dressing.
  2. "Mag-Bor" - a very popular product for the processing of all vegetable crops is suitable. Packaging is usually 20 g, diluted in a bucket of water (10 l).
  3. "Pokon" - This liquid boron fertilizer is ideal for indoor ornamental plants.
  4. Boric superphosphate - inexpensive and one of the most popular fertilizers.
  5. "Fertika Lux" - is a universal complex fertilizer with microelements, which is suitable for seedlings, and for plants in open ground, and for indoor plants.

Treatment

  • For indoor plants, there is a processing scheme as follows:

    First, we prepare a solution of the required concentration: 1 glass of water needs to be heated to about 50 degrees, dissolve 1 g of boric acid in it. Cool and add so much water to make a volume of 1 liter.

    It is necessary to process (for feeding) indoor flowers at a time when buds begin to appear on them, preferably by a foliar method.

  • For garden flowers, there is a processing scheme as follows:

    In one bucket of water, you need to dissolve 2 teaspoons of boric acid, the treatment should be carried out just before flowering and the second time - when flowering has already begun. You can apply top dressing by spraying, or you can just water it at the root.

  • For potatoes, the processing scheme is as follows:

    The first step is to process the tubers at the beginning of germination (it is convenient to do this when the potatoes are laid out in boxes), this will serve as a prophylaxis against scab. The solution is needed 1%. When added to the soil, more phosphorus is added to boric acid.

  • For beets, the processing scheme is as follows:

    Before sowing, you need to soak the seeds in a 0.1% solution of boric acid (overnight). You will also need one treatment with a 0.5% solution during the period of appearance of 4 - 5 leaves and another one during the period of the beginning of the ripening of the root crop. These manipulations guarantee a healthy and tasty beet harvest.

  • For grapes, the processing scheme is as follows:

    During the budding period, it is very desirable to carry out the treatment with such a solution: one teaspoon of boric acid and one teaspoon of zinc sulfate per bucket of water. Thanks to this, the berries on the grapes will not shrink and the yield as a whole will increase by at least 20%.

  • For strawberries, the processing scheme is as follows:

    In early spring, you need to spray strawberries with such a solution: one teaspoon per bucket of water (for the prevention of all kinds of diseases). And during the period of the appearance of buds, you need to treat the bushes (on a leaf) with such a fertilizer: take 2 g of boric acid and 2 g of potassium permanganate in a bucket of water. Berries will delight you with their yield after such processing.

  • For apple trees, the processing scheme is as follows:

    Very favorable treatment of the entire crown (spray), as far as you can get. A 0.1% solution is prepared and treated 2 times, the first time in the budding stage, the second time after 5 days.

  • For pears, the processing scheme is as follows:

    It is imperative to make top dressing with boron, due to a lack of boron, deformation appears on the fruits, buds crumble. Prepare a 0.2% solution (20 g per 10 liters) and carry out processing simultaneously with apple trees - also 2 times.

  • For carrots, the processing scheme is as follows:

    Before sowing, the seeds are kept in a 0.1% boric acid solution for about 12 hours. 3 weeks after germination, watering is done under the root and you still need to spray it at the stage of the beginning of root development with the same solution (0.1%).

  • For cabbage, the processing scheme is as follows:

    Cabbage must be processed 3 times - when 2 leaves appear, the second time - when the heads of cabbage begin to set and the last time - when the forks begin to ripen. The solution should be as follows: 2 g of acid per 1 liter of water, spray on the leaves.

  • For pepper, the processing scheme is as follows:

    Boric acid is used 3 times: before flowering, when it blooms and at the beginning of fruiting. This will allow you to harvest a rich and healthy pepper crop. You can also soak the seeds before sowing in a solution (0.1%).

Boric acid cannot be dissolved in cold water, it can only be done in hot (warm) water.

It is also worth remembering that it is best to make fertilizing and handle the plants in the evening. This should be done in cloudy weather and use a fine spray.

IMPORTANT! If the application is carried out by irrigation at the root, then the soil should not be dry, that is, the plants must first be watered with plain water.

Side effects

Sometimes it happens that an excessive amount of applied fertilizers (which contain boron) can speed up the ripening process of vegetables and fruits, but unfortunately, they will be stored poorly. If an excessive amount of boron suddenly appears in fodder plants, then animals may suffer, this leads to diseases.

What can be summed up? Of course, the use of boric acid among gardeners and truck farmers is very active, because the microelement boron accelerates all biochemical processes in a plant. And this is incredibly useful. You just need to always remember the golden rule - "It is better to underfill than to pour", it also applies to boric acid. An excess of boric acid in the soil should not be allowed.
