If you are tired of dealing with garden pests, buy an effective trap - a trapping belt.

Thanks to this modern adaptation, the number of insects that cause irreparable damage to fruit trees will be significantly reduced on your site.

Leaf rollers, weevils, moths, apple blossom beetles, moth caterpillars, aphids, ants and other small pests are the worst enemies of the future harvest of berries and fruits in your garden.

Types of trapping belts

This simple trap, set correctly, will become an insurmountable obstacle on the path of insects to the first green leaves of garden trees.

Fishing belts are:

  • dry;
  • poisoned;
  • adhesive.

Most often, dry belts are prepared from plain paper (disposable traps) or tow, burlap (reusable). This is the simplest and most budgetary device, and in comparison with other types of belts, it is less effective. How does it work?

The trunk of the fruit tree is wrapped in thick paper and tied tightly with twine or tape to avoid gaps for the passage of insects. When the pests crawl along the trunk to the trap, they penetrate under it and remain there.

It is best to install a dry belt as early as possible so that pests that tend to spring into the crown of a tree remain there for a long time. In the middle of summer, a dry trap is tied against the moth, which has crumbled along with the ovary.

Then every couple of weeks the belts need to be checked, and the insects that have accumulated there must be destroyed. Often, gardeners install dry belts at the end of summer to prevent pests from moving for the winter. It is better to leave such devices until spring, allowing the wintering birds to eat plenty of insects that have fallen into the trap.

Dry belts made of burlap or other non-synthetic fabric are prepared from one or two layers with a flap up to 7 cm wide... The more layers, the more reliable the trap.

The material of the poisoned belts is the same as for dry belts, but pre-soaked with biological products or insecticides against insects. Therefore, these devices, protected by a film from rain, are more expensive than ordinary dry ones and are more effective in business. Most often they are installed in early spring, and in late autumn they are removed and burned.

The glue belts are made of strong corrugated paper to which a thick layer of slowly hardening glue is applied. Basically, such a trap clings to the trunk in the spring at a height of 10–12 cm from the ground. In autumn, it is placed under the lowest skeletal branch. If the glue has frozen and no longer flows along the stem, then it is better to replace the trapping belt with a new one.

Basic rules for setting a trap

Provide a snug fit at the waist. Any gaps are unacceptable. insects can proceed further along the trunk. Therefore, it is better to clear it of last year's bark or fix the belt on the smoothest surface of the trunk.

Install the belt at the very bottom of the trunk, before the first fork, so that insects do not go around the obstacle at the fork.
It is better to press the belts dry and poisoned during installation to the trunk with the upper part, and let the lower one slightly lag behind the trunk.

Glue traps are attached at the same time from the bottom and from the top for greater efficiency.

Disposable dry belts, according to the expiration date, should only be used once. After use, remove and destroy, but do not re-attach to the tree. Otherwise, you will get dubious savings and low effectiveness of the procedure.

If you take into account all the basic rules for installing trapping belts, then you will save your garden from gluttonous insects.
