How to make the garden: the trees to choose

If you are looking for suggestions on how to make the garden, it is good that you know, first of all, that the main element of any green space is the tree, around which it is appropriate to develop the whole project: it, in addition to the normal function aesthetics, helps protect the environment from strong gusts of wind, and ensures adequate privacy while creating shading, particularly noticeable when the sun is at peak. It is possible to buy the seeds in a garden center, or a sapling at a nursery, and then move it and make it take root in the garden. Sales are differentiated according to the possibility of taking root and heights: just think that species capable of exceeding ten meters in height are sold as two-meter plants. It is appropriate, however, to distinguish between trees offered for sale in pots, that is, in boxes, or bare-rooted. As for the planting, it is advisable to maintain a considerable distance between two or more plants, considering that, over the years, the roots can develop consistently, extending even for several meters. Don't worry about the fact that the garden looks empty when the specimens have been planted. The risk, with a similar concern, is that trees are planted at a density higher than they should be, with the consequence that in a short time the root systems will collide with each other. On the subject of the roots, on the other hand, we cannot forget about their imposing penetration force which makes them grow and creep under the foundations of the buildings, with the real danger that they cause damage to the walls. This leads to the need to plant trees, especially if they are large, at least five meters away from the nearest buildings. The arrangement of the plants at a reasonable distance from buildings, houses and homes, moreover, also makes it possible to obtain the right degree of shading: if it is true, in fact, that in summer the projected shadow can be pleasant, it is equally true that in in winter it risks shielding the sun's rays in an inappropriate and excessive manner. Moreover, the civil code regulates, as well as the various municipal ordinances, the distance that a medium and high trunk plant must maintain with respect to the properties of others: and often these prescriptions also apply to hedges.

Kinds of trees

To create a valuable garden, it is necessary to know first of all the different kinds of trees to which it is possible to give life. For example, the row is obtained by planting in a row trees belonging to the same species, one after the other: for example cypresses and poplars, but any tall, elongated plant that is able to guarantee a delimitation is fine as a fence. There is, moreover, the double-row tree, which provides instead to arrange the plants on the two sides, for example of a path or an avenue: this time, there are no limitations as regards the species for which to opt, and you can choose between maritime pines, magnolias, limes, cherry trees, albizia, spaccasassi, catalpa and maples, indifferently with umbrella or wide foliage. On the other hand, the fifth is made up of plants of the same species, and the aim is to recreate rather dense foliage to protect the garden from excessive sunlight or to shelter it from gusts of wind. While in the northern regions, to obtain the fifth, resort to cypresses, laurels, yews and holm oaks, in the Mediterranean areas and on the islands carobos, lentisks, tamarisks and eucalyptuses are preferred, which are able to resist more easily both to the proximity of the sea than the dryness of the climate. Again, it is worth mentioning the curtain, composed of plants of different species in order to superimpose the crowns, of different heights and forms: the aim is to make them, by mixing, give life to a real curtain. Furthermore, it is not said that the layout, even if it develops for the long term, follows a straight line.

How to make the garden: Sowing and irrigation

In addition to trees, of course, the creation of a garden also requires the sowing of the lawn. The most widespread species is the fescue, which must be irrigated twice a day until the blades of grass reach three centimeters in height (previously, of course, we will have to clear the ground, or weed the weeds) more resistant by hand, or by using specific herbicide products). Much attention must be paid to watering, which must be dosed according to the specific needs of the plants, it being understood that the vegetation suffers in particular the excesses of water. For this reason it is advisable to resort to very draining soils, and try to facilitate the outflow of water by piercing the same land with a fork, or passing over it periodically with spiked shoes. In the case in which water stagnation occurs, in fact, potentially dangerous situations would be created, given that an excess of humidity often causes the appearance of rottenness, or in any case of fungal infections. To avoid these risks, therefore, it is good to regulate the administration of water to the actual needs of the garden and of the plant species cultivated in it.
