Garden lawn

A beautiful lawn in the garden, not only is it aesthetically very beautiful and elegant, but it also has many practical advantages, as it allows you to easily walk on the ground, allows children to play without hurting themselves too much, falling, or our pets to run freely.
Therefore it is very important to take care of the lawn of your garden carefully and to avoid damage due to external climatic conditions or due to weeds or worse still diseases.
Honestly, it must be said that maintaining a thick and lush turf is not at all a very easy operation. First of all there are two things to do initially and that is, to choose the grass to sow that seems more suitable or that we like more aesthetically and finally, to choose the right time for sowing.
Generally the sowing operation is carried out in spring or at the beginning of autumn because the temperature is mild and is, above all, constant humidity; therefore, these are the ideal conditions for the lawn seeds to germinate correctly.
Of course, before proceeding with sowing it is essential to prepare the soil. First of all it must be cleaned of all weeds and possibly stones. It would then be advisable to work it up to a depth of 20 centimeters, with a hoe or a motor hoe. Then the soil must be leveled with a rake and at this point it can be fertilized with granular fertilizer and finally with abundant irrigation.
For the choice of the seed, instead, two aspects must be considered: the use we want to make of our lawn and the climatic conditions in which we live.
In fact there are seeds suitable for soils that are positioned in shaded areas, others instead suitable for lawns exposed to the sun; some seeds, then, are suitable to be trampled, others much less.

Some lawns are made with only one species of seeds, others with mixtures, the choice depends very much on the climatic conditions and the type of soil.
Many prefer a grassy mando composed of a single type of grass, since it will be aesthetically much more homogeneous, but with the mixture it is certain that we will have a lawn that is always green all year round.
It is usually preferred to choose a grass that grows rapidly and is very resistant to trampling for practical reasons.
Grasses are the ones that are most successful, since they adapt well to all soils and all weather conditions. They grow quickly and do not become deformed if they are stepped on.
Often this type of grass is mixed with others belonging to the same family, to give the lawn a longer duration. The most used ones are the festuca or loietto. This type of grass germinates in a week, but it is preferable to plant it if we have a dry soil, in fact in the wet areas it will be lush and very beautiful during the first year, but subsequently it will disappear because of too much humidity.
The macrotherm grasses, are species of grass that remain green even during the summer period and that do not need constant irrigation; microtherms, on the other hand, being suitable for humid climates remain green even in winter, however in summer, to avoid wilting, they must be abundantly irrigated. Usually the latter species is used in the Central North regions.
Poa pratensis is also present in herbal mixtures which is able to make the lawns very beautiful and dark green. It also resists well in damp soils.
In other cases, seeds of small flowers are added which give a decidedly spontaneous appearance to the lawn. These types of lawns are called flowery or ornamental.

The seeds of mixtures of microthermal species must be sown at temperatures between 15 and 18 degrees, whereas for macrothermal mixtures it is preferable that the temperature is between 24 and 30.
Spring or autumn, therefore, and the season will depend on the seeds you have chosen for your lawn. This operation, in general, must be performed in the morning, and the seeds can be spread by hand or with the spreader that can be easily found in gardening stores. Try to choose a dry day in which the winds are absent.
The recommended quantity is 30 grams of seeds per square meter.
The seed must be spread first in one direction and then in the opposite direction so that all the soil is covered. After we move on to rolling, that is with special rollers we pass over the ground to bury the seeds and compact the soil. If you don't have a roller we can use a normal shovel by pressing it on the ground.
At this point a watering that is not too abundant is needed. From this moment on, one simply remains waiting for germination, it will suffice not to step on it and irrigate it regularly.
After about twenty days the grass will be born, even if the realistic times change a little based on the seeds we have chosen.
To cut the lawn for the first time, the grass must be at least ten centimeters high.

To keep a lawn well, irrigation is essential, at least 5 liters per square meter. We must consider, however, that if we have chosen a mixture of macrothermal herbs it is not necessary to water the lawn frequently, moreover, it is also important to regulate ourselves based on the climate zone in which our lawn is located and the season in which we find ourselves.

To save time, instead of sowing our lawn, we can also build it with the turf that is sold in nurseries. They are real mats of grass that can be placed even on non-linear surfaces. Also the preparation of the soil will be facilitated because it will be enough to remove the debris. Then it will only be kept as a normal turf.
