The consolida

The botanical name of the comfrey is Symphytum officinalis. It is a plant that belongs to the Borraginaceae family and is an uncommon herb for its important characteristics. It grows in places filled with moisture and is characteristic because it contains such a high degree of protein that no other plant can match it. The inside of the comfrey leaves are rich in calcium, phosphorus, potassium and a series of very important vitamins and the flowers are bell-shaped and bloom in spring.

Cultivation of the comfrey

Do not put the consolidat in seedbeds if you intend to plant and cultivate it because, the root of the plant, propagates in an impressive manner and its roots stretch out in a really disproportionate way, so if you wanted to move it from its current home, you would find series difficulty to eradicate it. The plant needs a well-fertilized and fertilized substrate and must be placed in a sunny place because it requires a direct position to sunlight. Furthermore, the soil must have a constant and neutral pH and the soil must always be well moist but not stagnant. This is why the plant is often found on river banks or in particularly marshy areas. When planting it, remember to place the tufts far apart because during growth the plant expands noticeably, apart from the roots that require considerable space. The leaves with regard to herbal use, should be collected only in the summer as well as the roots that when removed, should be carefully cleaned and brushed with a special brush.

Therapeutic properties of Consolida

The main property of the plant is the healing one. Already in antiquity, the plant was used for its healing virtues for wounds that did not want to heal and even today these properties are exploited in this sense. In fact, the plant has the power to treat deep wounds and burns of a certain degree, varicose ulcers and sores. However, the plant has many other virtues such as emollient, astringent, soothing, expectorant and decongestant. Comfrey is also used in cosmetics for the preparation of creams that help the skin to be toned and not very red. The properties of the plant are almost all found in the roots but the leaves are also used only if their action is more bland. In fact, inside the roots there are emollient active ingredients and components of notable importance such as mucilage, asparagine, choline, resin, starch, allantoin, and glycoside consolidin.

How to use Consolida

As we have said, cicatrization is the most important effect that helps cure and is indicated for wounds and wounds even of a certain entity. It was no coincidence that it was used in ancient times in times of war or during those jobs that could cause very deep cuts. On the other hand, the plant also cures those ulcerative wounds and those small sores caused by the constant scratching of various types of itching. Breastfeeding women have always used this plant to relieve pain caused by fissures that occur on the nipples during the sucking of the newborn. The fissures are very painful and generate small cracks around the circumference of the nipples, which could bleed and cause very painful pangs. With packs made from comfrey leaves, fissures soften and the pain calms down considerably. Of fundamental importance is the antidiarrheal and astringent action that the leaves and roots give through the infusion intake.

How to assume the consolida

The simplest way to take consolida is the infusion that is prepared with roots or leaves. This herbal tea is made to drink twice a day for those with attacks of diarrhea because it has an astringent action and calms intestinal pains. 100 grams of water are boiled and poured into a cup in which 5 grams of dried comfrey roots are placed. Leave to rest for a few minutes, sweeten with a little sugar and sip. The tincture instead is prepared by placing 20 grams of roots in 100 grams of alcohol at 60 degrees and if they take 20 drops twice a day for a few days. On the other hand, if you want to make compresses on swollen skin due to insect bites, burns, sunburn or intense itching, consolidate leaves are boiled in water. If you have an abscess or inflamed gums, with the infusion prepared as described above, you can make rinses by letting the mixture rest for a few minutes on the painful part. With the infusion, local applications can also be carried out with a cloth soaked in liquid, which is placed on the painful part and left to rest for a few minutes. The operation must be repeated several times a day until the burning or swelling subsides. Once the wet cloth has been removed, the painful part must be gently buffered with a soft cloth.
