To lift our immune system from more or less degenerative diseases, to recover after a health problem or at a time when the flu is upon us, the best thing is to run for cover and play in advance, perhaps using some valid home remedies that guarantee protection from seasonal viruses and bacteria without filling us with drugs, so why not try the rosehip infusion? This infusion, which is prepared with rose berries, is also indicated to appease many ailments that we will indicate later. Preparing an excellent infusion of this plant that is part of the rosaceous family is not difficult, and we will use dried cinorroids, or "false" fruits also known as berries, which the dog rose plant offers us, known and appreciated because they are rich in vitamin C is available in herbal medicine.
Cinorroids are harvested from the plant, left to dry and stored dry in glass containers until used.
How to prepare the dog rose infusion and what is used
All of us, we can prepare a infusion of wild rose if we feel the need to revive the immune system without taking over-the-counter supplements or even if we feel the classic flu symptoms. Preparing the infusion is not at all complicated, we can personally pick the berries and dry them, to keep them until they are used, or buy them already ready for use in herbal medicine. If we collect the berries personally, wash them and dry them well before putting them to dry.
Once we have the berries ready, let's take the quantity recommended by the herbalist, generally quantified in a kitchen spoon, and chop them. To chop them we can also use a mortar and a pestle. Once we have chopped it all, we put 200 ml of water to boil and once it reaches boiling, pour the liquid into a cup and put the berries in infusion. We leave the berries to infuse for 5 to 10 minutes, then filter, let cool for a while, sugar according to our liking and our infusion is ready to be consumed. The infusion is indicated one to three times a day, depending on the situation for which it is taken and according to the dosage used in the preparation.

Many herbalists recommend it for its multiple properties but above all because the rosehip infusion represents a real "concentrate of orange juice", because it is rich in vitamin C, and for this reason it is particularly suitable for preventing or combating flu symptoms, seasonal ailments and any other viral infection affecting the body. Able to soothe the pain caused by arthritis and rheumatism, it is also recommended in cases of vitamin C deficiency (hypovitaminosis) and in periods of particular stress or tiredness and fatigue; it is used to improve the immune system in general and to strengthen it. Due to its properties, the infusion is also recommended when an anti-inflammatory action is needed, or where improvements in kidney function are needed, or even improvements in blood circulation; according to scientific studies, it would also be able to slow down the course of oncological diseases, preventing their growth. It may happen that the herbalist also advises him when he is a victim of particular forms of allergy because he strengthens the immune system making it react better in allergic subjects, including those who suffer from asthma, conjunctivitis and allergic rhinitis, because it acts on vitamin B9, triggers the antihistamine response in the body.
What benefits can be drawn from the infusion
The known benefits are several, from prevention to flu symptoms, to the protection of the urinary tract and gastro-intestinal tract; also known are the benefits that occur in cases of arthritis and joint pain, but also in the treatment of diseases that affect the throat, tonsils, bronchi and lungs, such as tonsillitis, bronchitis, pharyngitis and even ear infections. Thanks to the presence of tannins in the berries, there is also a response in the treatment of diarrhea and colic.

Grow dog rose
Dog rose is a widespread shrub in the wild in Europe and Asia. It can commonly be found on the sides of country roads or at the edge of the woods. It has a sarmentose habit and can reach up to 5 meters in height. The branches are arched; the leaves are composed of 5-7 ovate and toothed leaflets, medium opaque green. It blooms in late spring from leaf axils. The corollas are composed of 5 petals, generally light pink (but there are also sub species and mutations in white and red). In autumn there is also the production of glossy red rose hips, with an elongated shape, that contain seeds.
There cultivation of the canine is not very common: often other types of roses are preferred, more showy and from the more lasting and repeated flowering. It must however be said that it can be used to obtain beautiful and impenetrable field hedges, alone or in combination with other shrubs. In addition, the berries produced are used for culinary purposes, as well as attracting a large number of pretty birds during the cold season.

Land, exposure and climate
Like all roses it prefers a deep, rich and fresh soil, with a good quantity of clay and organic matter. However, it often turns out to be very adaptable and grows well even on forest land or on lighter soils.
Exposure
The ideal is to place it in partial shade or in the East, especially where the summers are very hot and dry. If we live in the North or in mountainous areas, we will endure the full sun very well.
Climate
The dog rose absolutely does not fear the cold: it can withstand even -20 ° C very well. It can therefore be cultivated with tranquility even up to 1200 meters s.l.m. Instead, we pay a little attention if we live in a very hot climate: let's follow it more with irrigation and position it where there is more shade
Irrigation and fertilization
Irrigation
These shrubs, if well stamped, do not need irrigation: they are in fact equipped with very deep taproot roots. We follow the recently planted plants only during the first vintage. We intervene sometimes during the summer only if we live in the Center-South and our soil is light and draining.
Composting
It is not strictly necessary. It is however useful to distribute, in autumn, a good quantity of chaff manure at the foot of the bush, to be incorporated then at the arrival of spring. For a greater flowering it is possible to resort, towards March, to a few handfuls of granular slow release fertilizer, particularly endowed with potassium.
How and where to plant the wild rose
The planting, for bare-rooted plants, is preferably done in autumn, but it is also possible to operate at the end of winter. Potted plants can be transplanted at any time of year, but autumn is always ideal.
How to proceed?
We dig a deep hole twice as wide as the vase. We add seasoned manure to the bottom and then the earth bread. We cover, compact well and irrigate abundantly.
Pruning
Dog rose does not need this type of intervention: it should be allowed to grow while maintaining its natural shape as much as possible. We can intervene at the end of winter to eliminate dead or compromised branches.
If instead we want to reduce the size it is good to prune (not excessively) after the end of flowering (June-July). In this way we will not totally lose the flowering in the following year as it occurs on old branches.
Pests and diseases of the dog rose
It is very robust. It is usually attacked by aphids, but rarely weakens it.
Sometimes on the leaves can appear some galls, caused by wasps. Punctuation is also common.
Dog rose infusion: Propagation of dog rose
This shrub can be multiplied by sowing, cutting or offshoots.
The cutting can be done on woody or semi-woody branches, starting in July, in a very light compound always kept moist.
The offshoot often occurs naturally: the plant tends to bury part of its arched branches, which then will root (and can then be harvested). In the same way, root suckers can be taken.
To obtain seedlings through seeding, instead, it is necessary to proceed with vernalization, that is by keeping the seeds in a cold and damp environment for several months. They will then be transferred to the final compound around March, where they will develop. These seedlings are produced on a large scale by nurseries as they are used as rootstocks for most other ornamental roses.
