Rose diseases

The Roses, are considered the Queens of the Flowers. These wonderful and colorful plants do not need special care and are very resistant, obviously if they offer themselves to their care and attention, they will produce more flowers and they will grow more and more robust. The most popular roses are red and are the Rosa Baccara, the most popular although very sensitive to temperature and humidity changes, the Visa Rose which gives life to about 30 petals each flower and the Red Success Rose which gives life to as many as 50 petals per flower.
Pink in color: the Sonia rose which produces about 20 petals per flower, adapts very recklessly when it lives well around 13-14 °, while yellow: the large and elegant Cocktail Rose 80 suitable for any place and that lives well in the water. In northern Italy, roses can be planted from November until April, while in southern Italy the best period is in March. When you go to plant these plants you need to choose a place where the sun is present for at least a few hours during the day, and so that the roots are free and not hindered by other trees, only the Rambler variety needs trees or nearby plants, in order to grow at their best. Some types of roses can be planted in groups, especially bushy ones, while if you have different varieties it is better to leave a space of about 1 meter between one plant and another to avoid problems during their growth.
Roses like all plants and living beings can be affected by pathologies in some cases even serious ones.

Rose diseases caused by fungi

The Mushroom Botris Cinerea, commonly called Gray Mold usually manages to attack every vital part of the Rose. When the disease is at an advanced stage, the buds are bent and the petals can show usually dark spots. This fungus is very frequent and occurs due to the poor disinfection of the plants when the latter was injured during pruning. First of all it is necessary to eliminate the diseased parts of the rose and pay close attention to the water stagnation in the same. Furthermore, a treatment based on specific anti-bacteria is recommended. If the leaves, on the other hand, are spotted with black, the plant has been affected by the Plocarpon Rosae Fungus. Once the plant has been affected by this annoying fungus it appears defoliated and very weak, the remaining leaves will present numerous spots confluent with each other of purple-black colora. In this case it is necessary to immediately eliminate the affected parts, avoid water stagnation and carry out chemical treatments or with Sodium Bicarbonate. If, on the other hand, the leaves or buds of the rose are hit by orange spots then it can be a rust attack, usually due to the Phragmidium Macronatum Mushroom, This pathology affects mainly in spring and after about 30 days the first symptoms appear. The first thing is to eliminate the parts affected by the fungus, or proceed with copper-based treatments. Finally, one of the most serious diseases affecting roses is the famous White Mal, caused by the Sphaerotheca Mushroom, this fungus generally prefers to hit the youngest and weakest parts of the plant. In this case you can proceed with sulfur-based treatments.

Diseases of roses caused by viruses

If the leaves of the rose are presented with small designs similar to a mosaic, it could be a Virus called Mosaic Rose. In this case the affected plant has deformed flowers, moreover, it has delays in the flowering period and the buds are very small. If the rose has been hit by this virus there is nothing to do except to eradicate it and burn it, if possible away from other plants to avoid the risk of infecting them.

Rose diseases caused by insects and mites

If the plant shows clear spots on the leaves and are accompanied by occasionally leaping insects, the problem is Typhocyba or the common Cicalina, the only remedy is a treatment with specific insecticides. While if on the leaves there are both insects that fly and jump, the buds are deformed and find it hard to grow the plant without a doubt it has been hit by the Rose Lice. In this case you need to proceed with specific pesticides. Finally, if the leaves turn yellow very quickly and curl up and then inevitably fall down, the plant was struck by the annoying Ragnetto Rosso. If the plant is small, you can try to wash the affected parts with soap, taking care to remove it all with a jet of water, otherwise if the plant is very large, proceed with a specific insecticide.
