ARTIFICIAL FLOWER COMPOSITIONS
How to make harmonious and well-made artificial flower compositions for furnishing or decorating. Tips for choosing and combining different types of flowers.
Uses, types and costs
A composition of artificial flowers, if harmonious and well made, can be a piece of furniture or a gift of rare beauty and safe use. We all know that fake flowers are particularly versatile and able to meet the tastes of almost all women, from classic to minimalist. No one has ever let slip the opportunity to place one of those flowers, tablecloths on gift packages and various packages in the most appropriate way and place, thus enhancing an empty vase or furniture, a table centerpiece or a tablecloth, sometimes even using it as a decorative accessory for a hairstyle or dress. Furthermore, artificial flower compositions can define the style of a house and complete the furnishing of a corner or wall. First of all, it is necessary to know how to choose the type of flower based on the context in which it will be placed. In fact, there are an infinite number of types of fake flowers. From those that seem real to stylized ones, from those of fabric to those of glass, plastic or rattan, from those glittered or enriched with rhinestones and sequins, to those of the type dried flowers, etc. In short, a vast assortment to choose from, considering that the costs per single branch can vary, even a lot, depending on the size, quality or brand of the product, the presence of more or less valuable materials and so on.
Compositions for furnishing
Wanting to make a composition of artificial flowers the first thing to ask is for what purpose we do it. If the goal is to furnish a corner of the house or terrace, fill a vase or similar, first of all, choose a type of fake flowers that, in shades of color and materials, are in line with the environment to be enhanced.
- Minimalist or modern environments, where one color or two at most (often white, black or gray) predominate, requiring the combination of one or two colors in contrast with those of the walls and to absolutely avoid the rainbows or the jumbles of so many colors and too many flowers.
- Better to always put together a few branches, of one or two flowers each, but well chosen and well made avoiding categorically the kitsch effect of the "too fake" which is typical above all of those artificial flowers that pretend to faithfully follow the true ones . The difference will always be noticed and the excessively plastic effect will be unpleasant to the eye. Better artificial flowers that are deliberately an alternative to the real, as long as they are well made.
How to choose and compose artificial flowers
- Always choose the pieces to create a harmonious and balanced composition. On the one hand, therefore, the branches need to be chosen in various lengths in order to better match them and create movement. On the other hand, we must always accompany the choice of the main flowers, that is, those we want to see more, with a second type that has the purpose of being the background for the first ones. Therefore, for example, two or three branches of flowers will be enhanced if placed in front of a dozen thin branches or canes of an opposite or shaded color compared to that of the main flowers. We also try to combine flowers that have a conceptual evenness between them. A poinsettia and an orchid in the same composition would appear to have little harmony. The same Christmas star placed next to a butcher's broom and enriched with a base of pine twigs will instead be balanced.
- We place the compositions in decorative or exclusive design vases. Using them to house an artificial composition will make more sense given their particularity. It is important to assemble the composition before putting it in the jar or packaging it. The advice is to place everything you need on a table and proceed, first of all, with the arrangement of the back. Let's start with the canes, the longest and simplest branches or whatever will be the background for the main flowers. Then we place the flowers in question, from the highest to the lowest, avoiding placing them on the same optical line. The ideal is to arrange them in a staggered manner and to approach them also according to the shades of color. Then we stop the flowers with the help of a little transparent thread or string in tone with the color of the stems. We lock the flowers in the final position that we intend to give to the composition: it will avoid the inconvenience of seeing them slip into the vase and allow us to make a bunch that is firm and therefore easier to cover with paper, nets or decorative ribbons. It is preferable to buy flowers with long stems that lend themselves to several uses and that can be shortened simply by cutting them at any time.
Artificial flower compositions: Compositions for bouquets or small objects
If instead with artificial flowers we want to create a bouquet or a small composition that serves as decoration to another object, without prejudice to the above, it will be more appropriate to use flowers with smaller stems with leaflets that can cover the point where the bunch will be stopped by the string. Do not overdo it with bows and bows in the grip area. The flowers we have chosen (better few but special and well made), if well ordered and chromatically in harmony with each other, will appear in all their beauty without the need for further frills.
