Design a garden
Probably the garden is the most direct expression of the imagination of those who own it and their own personality. However, raising a garden in a totally spontaneous and impulsive way is not the best of ideas because, it will seem strange, but there is nothing more strategic than good planning and planning of one's own green space; this will help us to rationalize resources, including economic ones, space and to objectively evaluate certain aspects that affect and not a little, on the realization of our garden.
Also, and above all, in this case, there are many elements that contribute to our success. It is not just a matter of personal tastes, but of reconciling objective situations, such as the terrain, the space available, etc., with our drive for creativity and the desire to express ourselves by building our own space.
The garden requires constant commitment, starting from the preparation phase, up to the realization and maintenance. Preparing and planning requires a considerable effort: we count the resources, the strengths and the difficulties we will encounter.
Materially creating the garden also requires an economic commitment. Maintaining it requires both efforts. However, if we have carried out a good planning, it is possible that we have built up a space both personal and functional, and it is possible that this well-designed space will cost us even less in maintenance.
Better think about it before having to run for cover then, if anything, make do!
But how to do it? How to be strategic and at the same time creative in garden design?
Below, we list a few simple steps. It is a complex but rational procedure, which makes it easily reproducible.
WHO WELL BEGINS IT'S HALF OF THE OPERA
Keywords for the design of a garden are design and list of priorities
We draw our green space on graph paper, then we decide what to do with it, or rather we decide what use we want to make of it: will our garden be predominantly decorative or do we also want to assign it some function? Do we want it to become a space to live totally, perhaps making us play children, or do we want it to be a garden of beauty?
To these questions we must respond according to our tastes but not forgetting that there are other factors to consider carefully.
First of all, the size and shape of the garden.
Space and depth may affect our initial idea, it may be necessary to review our project and calibrate the lines well. If a garden has an irregular shape, the eye can be "distracted" by focusing on a piece of furniture, such as a fountain or a body of water; if we have little space available, it might be useful to lengthen the perspective to give an impression of length. In short, as you can see, it is not so simple and obvious.
THE SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT
The garden is and will be part of a context, it will live and grow around a house: the building is another very important element that influences the style of a garden and its realization.
The house and the garden live in symbiosis and, as such, harmony must be more pronounced than ever.
Furthermore, it may happen that home and green are perfectly in harmony but that, in general, this picture does not go well with the external environment: an unpleasant frame or little privacy are primary elements. Here, then, the garden also helps to solve these problems: we will prefer tall shrubs that protect us from prying eyes, or creepers that buy inadequately urban elements.
The garden is our precious ally!
INTERNAL FACTORS
We have in mind a garden ideal, if anything, so far, we can also make it but ... we take into consideration the internal factors, that is, the terrain present in our space and the external climate.
Here are two other elements that could condition our starting idea, even if in a less strong way.
Of course, it is not possible to change a harsh climate, but it is possible to position a particular plant, so that it remains protected, or to exploit a corner exposed to the sun, and therefore warmer.
A similar argument can be made for the type of terrain. A good expert gardener can juggle the composition of the soil and also modify it with a certain margin.
Last aspect not to be underestimated is the alternation of the seasons and the microclimate of the garden.
GARDEN STYLE: THE MIRROR OF OUR TASTES
What style do we imagine for our garden? Of course, the style often follows that of the house. A modern building will require a garden designed for modern tastes; an early century building goes well with a classic garden model.
Password is not to mix the styles!
They can be reworked and revisited in a more modern key, but a total upheaval could lead us astray and have to run for cover.
Another advice and cardinal point is the symmetry in the design.
The great gardens of the past were strictly symmetrical, today, probably, it is no longer so and this is often due to the lack of large spaces or irregular shapes. Weighting the style and organization accordingly is natural.
Depending on the style we want to achieve, we can of course determine which plants to use. This is the final touch and must be studied in relation to the final effect and to what we want: the plants create volumes, strokes of color, go to separate some areas of the garden from others, in short, in fact, they build our garden.
And for this, the last precious advice, it is necessary to know and study them. This will allow us to realize our green dream and a priceless personal space.
