THE MATERIAL: AN EXPENSE EXPENSE FOR EXCELLENT RESULTS
Finding the material for your compositions is simple and inexpensive. Crepe paper is also often sold in stationery in many different colors and thicknesses. If instead you want to opt for rice or cotton paper it will be better to go to any hobby shop and maybe get advice.
Choose the colors according to personal taste, but remember to buy green to make the leaves of your compositions.
Iron wire and gutta percha can be purchased from a florist. As for the wire, we advise you to buy colored, possibly green as it blends better with the flowers we are going to create. Alternatively, you can always cover simple wire with a little green adhesive tape, which is longer but equally suitable.
Even gutta-percha is readily available in a florist's shop, being careful to buy thin ones, possibly around 18 mm. Also in this case there are different shades, but we recommend the green or, at the limit, the brown. The more you succeed in camouflaging these components, the more your composition will gain in realism.
Here is a brief list of the materials needed to make paper flowers:
- crepe paper or any other paper you have decided to use.
- a pair of scissors with a rounded tip
- a wire cutter
- iron wire for gardening
- adhesive tape and self-adhesive tape for florists (gutta-percha)
REALIZATION OF A FLOWER (BASIC TECHNIQUE)
A lot of practice is needed to create breathtaking compositions. Get some time and exercise, but above all don't despair if the results you get don't have to be satisfied. Continue to create and experiment, you will see that in a short time you will be able to acquire good manners and perfect the technique.
But now let's start, are you ready?
First we cut the paper and start giving life to the petals. Take the crepe paper (or any other paper) and cut strips at least 50 cm long and 8-10 cm high. The number of strips to be cut varies according to personal taste and how large the flower is. Take the strips, choose the upper part and begin to fan them out with your hands, pulling the paper curl and bending it slightly outwards. To make further curls you can use a pencil: just wrap it over the paper and leave on for a few moments. You will see that in a short time the paper will take the desired fold.
If your goal is instead to make concave petals, press with your fingers in the central part of the strip and at the same time pull outwards.
Let's start now to give life to the flower. Take a strip and roll it carefully to make a flower, then stop it all with the help of adhesive tape, possibly green.
Now use the wire to shape the stem. If you failed to find the colored thread, no problem! take the green gutta-percha and wrap it around the wire, being careful not to leave any empty spaces.
With the crepe paper, make the leaves that will embellish your composition. Spread them with your hands and, using the adhesive tape, apply the wire on the back of each leaf. Be careful to let about 1 cm of wire come out of each leaf, so that you can hook it to the stem, under the gutta-percha.
Now we are ready to assemble our first flower. Take the stem you have just made and insert it into the lower part of the flower, taking care to fix it with adhesive tape and making sure it does not come off.
Simple right? obviously you can add other leaves and possibly use simple watercolors to paint the veins, in order to make everything even more realistic. Ribbons and beads can be added to make your creations unique.
Making paper flowers: VARIANTS, FOR THE MOST CREATIVE
As we have said, there is no single way to make paper floral compositions and experimentation is undoubtedly the basis of any creative project.
For example, why not make beautiful red roses in a few simple steps? just take a square piece of red paper and, starting from the center, draw a spiral that widens towards the outer edges. Using a pair of scissors, cut out the spiral trying to be as precise as possible.
Starting from the outside of the spiral, start wrapping the paper strip on itself. Continue wrapping the paper to shape the flower and fix everything with a little glue or adhesive tape.
Once you have made this technique your own, you can do much more complex compositions like flowers made with the technique of origami. On the web there are hundreds of step-by-step illustrated tutorials and the flowers you can make are endless.
A nice and very chic idea is to fix the flowers on wooden stems that you can buy in a florist's shop. Put the stems in a vase and you will have a truly unique piece of furniture, especially because it was born from your hands and your imagination.
