Datura is a perennial plant native to most of the tropical areas of the globe, and in particular to Central America; they are plants that adapt very well to the Mediterranean climate, characterized by hot and sunny summers, and quite dry. The main cause of death of these plants is water stagnation: watering is provided only when the soil is well dry and dry, avoiding leaving the soil moist for a long time. When we have to water our datura, even if it is midsummer, we always check with our fingers whether the ground is still wet, or if it is rather dry; we water only when we feel the substratum completely dry, without traces of humidity. Unfortunately, this type of problem occurs mainly with plants grown in pots, because it is difficult to water properly, especially in summer, and especially when the pots are not huge. To have a healthy plant, from March to September-October, we water only when the soil is dry, leaving the waterless plant in uncertainty for a few days, since it tolerates drought very well; provide fertilizer for flowering plants every 12-15 days. The different species of datura are easily propagated by seed; they produce large roundish, thorny fruits, which contain numerous fertile seeds.
